It's May 4th, and the state of Rhode Island is celebrating its Independence Day, commemorating the day in 1776 when the colony officially renounced its allegiance to the British Crown.
The state will mark the 250th anniversary of its independence with a 13-gun salute fired at noon.
In addition, bells will be rung at 4 p.m. at all five original statehouses in East Greenwich, Providence, Newport, Kingston, and Bristol.
