RIDEM Plans To Conduct Low-Severity Prescribed Burn Today

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management's Forest Fire Program plans to conduct a low-severity prescribed burn today, weather permitting.

The burn is scheduled to take place at the Great Swamp Management Area in South Kingstown.

Officials say there is no need for residents to contact emergency services if they see fire in the area.

The work is part of a series of controlled burns that RIDEM is conducting on state land this season to restore habitat and reduce the risk of unplanned, high-severity, destructive wildfires.
