The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Management say the public should avoid contact with Worden Pond in South Kingstown after harmful algae blooms were detected in the water.
The blooms are caused by blue-green algae that can produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.
Officials say all swimming, fishing, boating and kayaking should be avoided at the pond and pet owners should not allow their animals to drink or swim in the water until further notice.
Testing will determine when it's safe to re-enter the water.
