Healey Proposes Gas Tax Relief

Massachusetts drivers could get a temporary break at the pump under a new proposal from Governor Maura Healey.

She's hoping to suspend the state's 24-cent-per-gallon gas and diesel tax for two months as fuel prices climb --

Triple-A puts the current average in Springfield at about four-31 for regular gas and six-36 for diesel.

The administration says the tax holiday would provide about 120-million dollars in relief.

Under the terms of the holiday. gas stations would be required to pass the entire 24 cents per gallon onto drivers.

It still needs approval from the Massachusetts Legislature.
