GLP-1 Drug Coverage Change For RI Medicaid

, Rhode Island Medicaid no longer covers GLP-1 drugs prescribed for weight loss.

Expensive drugs including Wegovy, Zepbound and Saxenda will only be covered if prescribed for other conditions like Type 2 diabetes.

The change was made to rein in state-administered Medicaid spending.

Several other states have also ended Medicaid coverage of GLP-1 drugs for obesity.
