The Federal Trade Commission and 20 states are suing Dollar General over allegations of deceptive pricing.
The lawsuit claims customers were routinely charged more at checkout than prices displayed on shelves, tags and advertisements.
The FTC says Dollar General received more than 29-thousand pricing complaints between January 2023 and March of this year but failed to adequately fix the problem.
Regulators are seeking refunds for affected customers, civil penalties and a court order barring deceptive pricing practices.
Dollar General has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
So far, Connecticut is the only New England state to join the suit although more states are expected to join.
