Elton John opened up about his marriage and fatherhood in a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
On his marriage to David Furnish, Elton insists it’s “gotten better and better and better,” but admits, “we’ve had our ups and downs like every other couple.” He notes, “Our love has grown stronger and stronger. And you have to work at it, you know you’re married.”
And having sons Elijah and Zachary is one of the reasons their twenty year relationship has grown stronger.
“[Having children] makes all the difference because it’s about them not you,” he says. “And it’s the greatest thing you’ll ever know.” Elton adds, “People say, ‘Well, I disagree I don’t want children’ and that’s fine, I would have said the same thing, until I had them. Then it was like ‘Wow this is it? Are you kidding me?’ If I was 15 years younger, I’d have two or three more. Without question.”
And speaking of age, Elton is about to celebrate turning 70, and while he always thought that felt old, he now says, “things have changed, you’re only as old as you feel inside,” and offers, “My inner self I feel great.”
