Laura Begley Bloom and her family were caught up in the travel chaos caused my severe storms. Delta canceled hundreds of flights, but it ended up being a payday for Bloom. She, her husband and toddler daughter first gave up their seats on a Ft. Lauderdale trip. They scored the cap of $1,350 each. When they went to get a flight the next morning, more delays gave them another $4,000.
The family finally decided to bail on their planned trip because there seemed to be no end in sight; that’s when they got another $3,000 and a refund on their original tickets.
Begley Bloom wrote: “I felt a bit guilty making so much money off the situation, but other passengers pointed out that we were freeing up seats for people who really needed to get somewhere. Many passengers actually thanked us for doing this.”
We’d call that a “win-win!”
