As you probably know, Lindsey Buckingham sued FleetwoodMac after being fired from the band earlier this year. The reasoning behind his firing has been a little unclear – with Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks claiming that he didn’t want to go on tour until he could release and promote his solo album, and Buckingham pointing the finger at Nicks’ alleged ultimatum that either he goes or she’s out. In a new interview with "CBS This Morning", the guitarist doubles down on blaming Nicks and reveals that they’ve reached a settlement.
Buckingham says that the call from the band’s manager Irving Azoff, where he was told “Stevie never wants to be on stage with you again,” came after what would be their final performance together when they were honored at the MusiCares benefit in January. Apparently, Nicks didn’t like his behavior during the event, allegedly complaining that he “smirked” behind her while she was giving her acceptance speech. “It appeared to me that she was looking for something to hang on me, in order to instigate some kind of coup,” he notes, adding that the supposed ultimatum came just a few days later.
Going forward, the guitarist says he’s focusing on his solo career… but he’s still open to reuniting with the band in the future. Although he isn’t crossing his fingers for a reunion, he says he reveals that he received an email from Christine McVie recently, where she told him she thinks that “deep in Stevie’s heart” she wants to reconcile. “This could just be Christine expressing wishful thinking or expressing something she thinks will make me feel better,” he adds.
