“Mary Tyler Moore Show” Star Georgia Engel Dies

Georgia Engel, who starred as Georgette Baxter on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” passed away on Friday at the age of 70. She’s survived by her two sisters, Robin Engel and Penny Lusk.

Engel joined “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in 1972, going on to star in the show until 1977. She was nominated for two Emmys for outstanding continuing performance by a supporting actress in a comedy series for her role. She’s also starred in “The Betty White Show,” “The Love Boat,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and “Hot In Cleveland,” among others.

The late actress’ friend and executor John Quilty has confirmed the sad news to The New York Times, noting that the cause of death is unknown. Engel was a Christian Scientist, so in terms with her beliefs, she didn’t consult doctors about her health.
