As the owner of a dog who eats paper and cardboard when he's nervous or lonesome, I know this scene all too well. But hey... They're dogs. The key is to find an alternate outlet for that energy. Getting mad and yelling only makes them more nervous and leads to more bad behavior. A few years ago I started collecting old vinyl and unfortunately I have had to replace some of those albums again because my 15 year old Flat Coated Retriever Jake decided album covers taste great and crunching on vinyl is fun. Fortunately he never swallowed the records. He just chewed them.
Bottom line... The dog is never going to come home and tell you that he crashed the car, is dropping out of college, or got his girlfriend pregnant, so they cause far fewer sleepless nights than kids.
