Crappy Singing Scores Lots of Grammys for Eilish, Lil Nas X and Lizzo.

At the risk of sounding like a total square... I don't get it. Billie Eilish just won the Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Her song "Bad Guy" which scored awards for Song and Record of 2020 is a strange mix of moaning and mumbling. A few of her other songs feature actual singing, but it's all far from being Grammy-worthy material of historic quality.

This approach to music appears to be a trend, as a few other singers also won Grammys by singing in unique yet crappy fashion. Lil Nas X, whose "Old Town Road" was a phenomenon on pop radio and Lizzo, whose "Truth Hurts" is so off key that it sounds more like a bad parody of a rap song than an actual song. These are all catchy novelty songs, but Grammy Winners??? For those of us who appreciate good music, here's an analogy: This is like giving a Grammy to "Kung Fu Fighting," the 1974 disco novelty song by Carl Douglas.

Check out the videos of these Grammy winners below if you are curious, but I warn you... You will probably come away with the same cranky attitude that I have. If you're reading this thinking "OK Boomer...just relax and go back to your Tony Bennett records," I'll clarify by saying I'm not a Boomer, but a GenX-er who likes all styles of good music, but can't get my brain around this awful crop of bad singers. Let's hope it's just a fad. ALL VIDEOS COURTESY of YouTube.

So why not a Grammy for this song? Because we all knew it was supposed to be just a novelty. Not a timeless classic. There's a big difference, but that point was lost on the dopey Grammy voters. (video courtesy of YouTube)
