Forget April Fools, April 1st is officially Devo Day in their hometown of Akron, Ohio. The city has declared April 1st Devo Day in an effort to get Devo inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
A press release signed off by Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan announces somecity-wide events and activities in order to get out #DEVOTE for their hometown music heroes. First, 50 Energy Dome sculptures will be scattered throughout the city, each featuring special QR codes that direct you tovote the band into the Hall of Fame’s 2021 class. Fred Armisen will also be making a special appearance in a video called “DEVOtional” alongside celebrities like Jack Black, Tony Hawk and Mayor Horrigan.
“The City of Akron has an unbelievable sense of pride, especially when it involves the success of our people,” says Mayor Horrigan in a statement. “We are, and will continue to be, immensely proud to be the home of Devo and will be rallying this great community to help them achieve the recognition they deserve.”
