I love this story. I remember seeing movies as a kid about messages sent in bottles and fantasized about sending a message from Scarborough Beach in Narragansett or my Aunt's house in Maine and having someone find it in a far off land. Thirteen year old Sean Smith of Vermont has now lived that dream. He visited family in Narragansett for Thanksgiving in 2018. As a family activity, his aunt Katie had everyone write a message and put them into bottles which they launched from a neighbor's oceanfront property.
Fast forward about two and a half years, and 17 year old Christian Santos of the Azores found Sean's bottle earlier this month (June 2021). Through the magic of the internet, the two have now connected via Zoom video conference. WOW! Only 3% of messages sent in bottles are ever retrieved, so this is pretty darn cool.
