My Providence Restaurant Weeks Recommendations

I love the fact that Restaurant Week has become Restaurant WeekS. The now two-week tradition runs until July 24th and includes restaurants around the state of Rhode Island, instead of just Providence. Over forty restaurants are participating and offering specials. In fact, many have a $39.95 dinner-for-two deal with three courses. I always find this is a great way to try out a new place, maybe on a weeknight when you're not looking to spend a bundle on dinner.

All participating restaurants have some kind of specials for Restaurant Weeks.

From classic fine dining like Capriccio, Capital Grille and Mill's Tavern (my personal favorite), to casual dining like Not Your Average Joe's, Providence G and P.F. Chang's, there's something for everyone. Here are a few of my recommendations among the restaurants participating in Restaurant Weeks, now through 7/24:

Fine Dining Around Downtown Providence:

Mills Tavern - Our go-to place when my wife and I celebrate a special occasion. Impeccable service, great wine list and award winning food by Chef Edward Bolus. (Tell Kate the manager that I sent you!) I always order meat... steak, veal, rabbit, duck, braised beef...all amazing.

Capriccio- A Providence classic. As soon as you walk down those steps, you know you're in a special place. Order the veal.

Federal Hill - Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen - Enjoy the old world charm and imagine the conversations that must have taken place within those walls when Raymond Patriarca, Buddy Cianci and Joe Dorley roamed the capital city. Try the marinara.

In Cranston: Chapel Grill. Wow. But make reservations.

In Johnston: Luigi's - If you had an Italian Grandma, she would approve. Excellent food at a superb value.

In Warwick: Elizabeth's of Portofino - We just went there for the first time last week with friends and it was awesome. Nice wine list. Excellent food and not as expensive as I expected.
