With every snow storm and freezing cold day, the incredible number of potholes on Rhode Island roads keeps growing bigger. This winter has been brutal on cars. And it's not just the busy city streets. Major highways like I-95 and Route 146 are experiencing a banner year for craters.
The Providence Journal's Jack Perry recently reported that our state has 17 roads with 13,000 potholes since 2021. I don't know how that compares to other years and regions, but it sure sounds like a heck of a lot! Perry also reports that Clunker Junker, a junk car seller, claims that Rhode Island has the highest number of pothole complaints on Twitter, per square mile, giving us the title of Pothole Capital of the U.S. Great! Yet ANOTHER thing we don't want to be famous for.
if you hit a pothole and sustain damage to your vehicle, but sure to note the exact location and time/date. Also try to take photos and definitely keep a record of any expenses and repair estimates. Then, visit the RI Department of Transportation website to file your damage claim: https://www.dot.ri.gov/about/claims.php
Good luck! We have several weeks left in pothole season and things are bound to get worse, so drive safely.
