Bono is giving fans another taste of his memoir, “Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story,” which drops November 1st. The U2 frontman has shared another animated audio excerpt from the book, this time focused on the first time the band practiced together at Larry Mullen, Jr.’s house.
It all started when, in 1976, Bono saw a high school bulletin board ad for a drummer looking for musicians. “Funny how casually our destiny arrives,” Bono writes. “We’re all packed in the oven that is Larry’s kitchen. How do we fit all the drums, amps, and apprentice rock stars into such a small room?”
In the clip he discusses all his bandmates, including how in the beginning bassist Adam Clayton, couldn’t play, describing what he had as “musical dyslexia.” But he notes Adam was “the spirit of rock and roll,” describing him as “a sort of posh Sid Vicious," adding, “If Larry gave life to the band, it was Adam who believed this band could give us a life.” Check it out below.
