Brian Johnson says he couldn’t bring himself to watch Axl Rose perform as the frontman for AC/DC after he was forced to leave the band due to hearing issues in 2016. In his memoir that’s hitting the shelves on Friday, “The Lives of Brian,” Johnson says he felt “despair” after he had to leave, and “wouldn’t have minded” if he died during one of his races.
“I’m told that he did a great job, but I just couldn’t watch…it’s like finding a stranger in your house, sitting in your favorite chair. But I bear no grudges,” he says in the memoir. After a technician developed a new kind of in-ear monitor that solved Johnson’s problem, he returned to the studio with AC/DC for the latest album.
