There has always been speculation about what the heck Devo's "Whip It" is about, and their bizarre video certainly didn't help clear anything up. While many fans thought the song had a sexual connotation, lyricist Gerald Casale has said in interviews that the lyrics were actually intended to poke fun at American culture and capitalism.
"Whip It" comes in at Song #275 on our countdown of the Top 500 Songs of the 80s.
