The Boots on the Ground Memorial returns to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Friday May 26-Monday May 29. The memorial, in its eight year, was conceived and organized by Operation Stand Down, a Johnston-based veterans support organization. The Boots on the Ground Memorial stands as a powerful tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces. Located in a picturesque park overlooking the waterfront, the memorial is a solemn and poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel. The centerpiece of the memorial is a striking display of over 7,000 combat boots, meticulously arranged to symbolize the soldiers who have laid down their lives in service to their country. Each pair of boots represents a unique individual, a hero who gave everything for the principles they believed in and lost their life in the war against terror, post-911. As visitors walk among the boots, the weight of their significance becomes tangible, evoking a sense of gratitude and reverence for those who have defended our freedom.
