The new movie “Roadhouse” is a contemporary remake of the 1989 cult classic, which originally starred Patrick Swayze. In this 2024 version, Jake Gyllenhaal steps into the role of Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes up a job as a bouncer in a Florida Keys roadhouse. The film promises a blend of action and thriller elements, set against the backdrop of a seemingly idyllic paradise that harbors dark secrets. Directed by Doug Liman, known for his work on “Edge of Tomorrow,” the film also features Daniela Melchior and UFC champ Conor McGregor.

Despite its star-studded cast and the director’s reputation, “Roadhouse” has stirred up some controversy regarding its release. Liman expressed disappointment over Amazon’s decision not to give the film a theatrical release, which he felt it deserved after positive reactions from a theater screening. Nevertheless, the film has landed on Amazon Prime Video, bringing a modern twist to the story that contrasts with the original’s 80s charm. Critics have noted differences between the two versions, highlighting the new film’s unique take on the story while paying homage to its predecessor. Most notably, the "roadhouse" is in the Florida Keys, not some backwater town.

Check out the trailers for both the new and original "Roadhouse" below.
