Most Haunted Roads in America

It doesn’t have to be spooky season for you to get an eerie feeling while driving down a stretch of highway, but it turns out, some streets are actually known for spine-tingling encounters. Whether you’d rather avoid those at all costs, or plan a road trip just to experience the supernatural possibilities, a new report scares up the most haunted roads in the country.

  • Researchers with Sixt analyzed TikTok and Google search volume, looking for ghost- and haunting-related terms, then they compared the results with previously published lists of haunted roads from recent years.
  • Holding onto the most haunted title for the third year in a row is Clinton Road in West Milford, New Jersey.
  • This stretch of pavement is “one of the country’s most haunted roads, with a reputation built on decades of folklore and eerie encounters,” according to the experts behind the list.
  • Clinton Road is reportedly haunted by numerous spirits and is home to Dead Man’s Curve, mysterious “ghost lights” and a ghost boy said to return coins tossed into the river. The road is also tied to legends of the Jersey Devil, which has been blamed for drought, crop failure and the death of livestock.
  • Coming in second is Kancamagus Highway in New Hampshire, which is said to be haunted by Ruth Colbath. Her husband Thomas vanished along the road in 1891 and she kept an oil lamp burning in the window for 39 years to guide him home. Three years after she died, he reportedly returned and today, visitors regularly claim to see Ruth’s ghost or the creepy glow of her lamp.
