Now this is BIG news for the Quaker owned brand.
According to NBC News, The Aunt Jemima brand of syrup and pancake mix will get a new name and image, Quaker Oats announced Wednesday, saying the company recognizes that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype."
The 130-year-old brand features a Black woman named Aunt Jemima, who was originally dressed as a minstrel character.
While the picture has changed over time they brand removed the "mammy" kerchief a few years ago the brand has always been problematic for the black community.
Since the #BlackLivesMatter movement has picked up traction the past few weeks large brands have been held more accountable for their actions and image they are portraying prompting the company to re brand completely.
