Did your parents throw away one or a bunch of your childhood toys that you wish you still had today? For me it was the old GI Joes. My mother donated them all despite the fact that my Barbies were still dating them! LOL! Well now you’ll really wish you had all of your old toys, especially if they’re in good condition, because experts say toys can be a better investment than artwork, financial investments and even gold!
According to EurekAlert, researcher Victoria Dobrynskaya of the Higher School of Economics, who co-authored this study, said “We are used to thinking that people buy such items as jewelry, antiques, or artworks as an investment. However, there are other options, such as collectible toys. Tens of thousands of deals are made on the secondary LEGO market. Even taking into account the small prices of most sets, this is a huge market that is not well-known by traditional investors.”
They found that annually the average returns on LEGO sets are around about 10-11%! that’s a better yield than stocks, bonds, gold, and several other things people like to collect including stamps, wine etc.
Old Star Wars toys are worth quite a bit too. I have a couple of friends who have sold their old Star Wars action figures and sets from the 70s and 80s and have made thousands of dollars.
So hopefully you still have some retired LEGO sets, especially those Star Wars sets, they could help fund your retirement! It may be worth buying some of the new ones now, to put them away for the future! Read more about the study HERE!
