COVID has once again forced “Saturday Night Live” to not be quite so “live.” And sadly, this came just as actor Paul Rudd was returning for his fifth time as host of the late night comedy show.
Thanks to a new threat from the Omicron variant of the virus, the show gave much of the cast and crew the night off, and no live audience was allowed in the studio. Even the musical performance, that was supposed to be provided by singer Charlie XCX was cancelled. Instead, it was mostly a collection of Christmas skits past.
SNL alum Tina Fey sat in the anchor chair for “Weekend Update” along with Michael Ché and they also introduced the different segments of the show, as did Paul Rudd. Tom Hanks and Kenan Thompson were there to help out as well. Tina, Hanks and now Rudd are all members of the 5 Timers Club, those who have hosted the show five times. Watch the opening monologue!
