The HBO television drama series, The Gilded Age, which was filmed in Newport and Warwick in early 2021,hadits world premiere last night.
Creator, Writer and Executive Producer Lord Julian Fellowes, who gave us the beloved series Downtown Abbey, has created the new drama The Gilded Age. The series is set in New York City and Newport, Rhode Island telling the story of Marian Brook. After the death of her father, she moves from the countryside of Pennsylvania to New York City to live with her two aunts played by Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon.
Fellowes said he thoroughly enjoyed his time here in the Ocean State. He said, “One of the principal joys of filming The Gilded Age was the discovery of Newport, Rhode Island. I had heard of it, of course, but I never went there until now and I found a beautiful seaside town, filled with architectural marvels, and not only that, but the people were as kind and helpful as any filmmaker could wish.”
The pilot for The Gilded Age aired last night at 9 on HBO and new episodes in this 10 episode series will air each week. You can also stream the show on HBO Max.
