Britian's Oldest Pub to Close After 1229 Years Thanks to Covid!

Imagine your establishment survives The Black Death but is forced to close because of Covid. Yup, nothing lasts forever, and this pandemic certainly has left a trail of shuttered businesses in its wake. Now the oldest pub in England is going to shut down thanks to the pandemic.

The Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St. Albans, England, which opened in the year 793, claims to be the oldest pub in the UK. The owners announced on Facebook that they have closed because of financial woes. It sounds like they were having some money issues before the pandemic, but that exacerbated the problem.

Christo Tofalli, the manager of the watering hole said, “It goes without saying I am heartbroken. This pub has been so much more than just a business to me, and I feel honored to have played even a small part in its history.”

Mitchells & Butlers brewery owns the building where the pub is located, and they said they’re hoping to reopen the bar at some point in the future.
