After 31 years of baby mama drama and paternity test results, the tabloid talk show “Maury” is coming to an end. Host Maury Povich, famous for the TV phrase “You are not the father!”, is retiring. Remember the happy dance some of the guys would do after hearing that news? Along with salacious topics, the show that debuted in 1991 would also deal with serious issues from time to time including racism, gang warfare and abusive relationships.
Host Maury Povich issued a statement to TV Line saying, “Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show, but as I occasionally tell my guests: ‘Enough, already!'”
We still have several months of original episodes to watch, those will air through September, and then the show will live on in reruns for many years to come.
