A building in Prince’s hometown is getting new look! An artist is painting a massive mural of the singer on the side of a building operated by the City of Minneapolis and the Minnesota Department of Transportation at the corner of First Avenue and Eighth Street in downtown Minneapolis.
Artist and muralist Hiero Veiga will begin work on the mural on May 16th, and she says it will be completed by this June.
It’s taken a while to get this project off the ground. One of the people who has worked to have this mural created along with Prince and his family is Sharon Smith-Akinsanya. She says planning began even before he died back in April of 2016.
She said, “I wanted to make sure this mural was in a place in downtown Minneapolis that will unite us, help it bring us all back together and have us look forward to something so much more brighter.”
