Director Filmed 800 Hours of Footage "Top Gun: Maverick!"

After 36 years and several delays due to the pandemic, the 80s classic movie Top Gun is finally getting a sequel, and it will be released on Memorial Day weekend!

In an interview with Empire magazine, director Joseph Kosinski said he shot close to 800 hours' worth of footage for the movie. That’s a lot of film to edit down for what will probably be a 2 and a half hour or so movie.

He said he's got a much footage as what was shot for all three of the "Lord of the Rings" films put together! Kosinksi explained that he could film all day just to get maybe 30 seconds of good footage so he had to get a lot of footage to get those perfect takes. He used 6 IMAX cameras in the cockpit to capture some of this incredible footage.

Along with Tom Cruise, the film stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer and John Hamm. "Top Gun: Maverick" will be in theaters on May 27th.
