Entomologist Names Millipede After Taylor Swift!

Taylor Swift has been awarded many honors over the years, but I’m sure she’s most excited about this particular tribute. A Swiftie scientist from Virginia Tech just named a new species of millipede after the singer!

Over the past five years, scientists with the university have discovered more than a dozen new creepy crawlies along with this one found in Tennessee. Entomologist Dr. Derek Hennen gave it the name "Nannaria swiftae" or the "Swift Twisted-Claw Millipede."

Although Taylor Swift was born in West Reading, Pennsylvania, she moved to Nashville, Tennesee when she was 14 to pursue her career in country music, so she has strong ties to the state.

Dr. Hennen also says, of course, he is a big fan of her music, and naming the bug after her was his way of "saying thanks."
