Queen Elizabeth II Will Not Abdicate Throne Despite Public Opinion

Although a new poll of 1,990 people in Britain conducted last Tuesday and Wednesday found that one third feel Queen Elizabeth II should step down, she says she has no plans to abdicate the throne in favor of her eldest son Prince Charles. The results are an increase from 25 percent last month.

Only 49 percent feel she has the stamina to continue on in her position, that’s a decrease of 10 points from just last month.

The monarch is 96 and for the first time in close to 60 years she skipped the ceremonial opening of the UK parliament on the medical advice of her doctors who the Daily Star reports say she has "episodic mobility problems." Prince Charles stepped in to fulfil that duty for her.

Meanwhile, folks seem to be warming up a bit to the idea of Charles being crowned king. Now 36 percent feel he is fit for the job, an increase of four points from April. Still not a ringing endorsement though.

The Queen, who has been on the throne for over 70 years, continues to insist that the job is a lifetime appointment. Long Live the Queen!
