Today Taylor Swift is giving probably the most anticipated commencement speech ever for New York University's Class of 2022, and many of her fans are very disappointed that they can’t be there in person to hear it.
In fact, over the last few weeks, Swifties have been desperately trying to get their hands on tickets to the event at Yankee Stadium, going so far as to ask students on social media if they could buy tickets to the ceremony, some offering hundreds of dollars for their seats. The school forbids the sale of graduation tickets and said they would punish those who sell them by delaying distribution of their diplomas.
Today the class of 2022, followed by the classes of 2020 and 2021 (who only had virtual ceremonies during the pandemic) will have live graduation ceremonies at Yankee Stadium. According to NYU’s website: “At approximately 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, the ceremonies will begin, featuring speeches from members of NYU’s board of trustees, faculty and one student from the graduating class. Honorary degree recipients will then deliver remarks and receive their diplomas. In addition to her speech, NYU will also honor Swift with an honorary doctorate degree.
The good news for fans is NYU will be live streaming the commencement ceremony on their website, also on their Facebook profile and YouTube page.
