After a long search and what were described as grueling auditions, an actress has finally been chosen to play a young Madonna in a new biopic directed by the Material Girl herself.
Julia Garner, who plays Anna in the Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” has been offered the lead role in the new biopic titled “Little Sparrow.” Madonna herself wrote the script that tells the story of her rise to fame, with help from Erin Cressida Wilson, who wrote the scripts for the movies ‘Secretary’ and ‘The Girl on the Train.’’
When speaking on the Universal Pictures project, Madonna said she wanted to “convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer — a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
Several young actresses auditioned for the role including Florence Pugh, Odessa Young and Alexa Demie, who stars in the HBO series “Euphoria.” Also considered for the role were singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
Julia Garner is expected to accept the offer.
