Boy Mows Lawns To Raise Money So Stepdad Can Adopt Him and his Brother

A South Carolina teen is mowing lawns to raise money to help his step father pay the fees to adopt him. His whole life, 14-year-old Tyce Pender of Cayce, South Carolina, has only known one dad: his stepdad Eric Jenkins, who’s been in his life since he was a toddler. "He's been a father figure to me since I was two," Tyce recalls. "He's always been there for us."

For years, Jenkins has wanted to adopt Tyce and his older brother Tylee and they recently found a lawyer who would do the work pro bono, but despite the lawyer doing the work for free, the process will still cost thousands of dollars. Tyce wanted to help to pay for the court fees, so he started a lawn mowing business to earn the money.

He’s only been at it for a few weeks, but Tyce has already earned a few hundred dollars to help pay for the adoption. Jenkins says he and Tyce’s mother will pay for the majority of the costs associated with the adoption, but they are “extremely proud of Tyce” for his initiative. "He's a good kid," Jenkins says of the teen. "His heart is in the right place."
