After two years of postponed weddings, more and more couples will be tying the knot this year, and most agree planning a wedding isn’t easy. And while some will include your typical wedding traditions, it seems more and more people think many of those traditions should be a thing of the past.
A new Minted survey finds:
- Two-thirds of Americans believe planning a wedding is more difficult now than it was in the past.’
- 42% of people say you need between six months to a year to plan a wedding.
- Only 20% think you can do it in less than six months
- 23% actually think you need more than a year.
When it comes to what should be included in your big day, folks are mixed. While many will opt to stick with traditional aspects of weddings, there are plenty of people who think those should be done away with.
- The top traditions folks say are “out” include:
- Bride Can’t Be Seen Before the Wedding (25%)
- Bride’s Parents Paying for the Wedding (24%)
- Bride and Groom’s Guests Sit Separately (24%)
- Walking down the aisle to “Here Comes the Bride” (22%)
- Bride and Groom’s Guests Sit Separately (24%)
- Something old, new, borrowed, and blue (22%)
- Bible or Religious readings during the ceremony (22%)
- White Wedding Dress (19%)
- As for new wedding traditions that are “In,” they include:
- Small weddings/elopement (29%)
- Wedding Websites (28%)
- Bright, vibrant colors (25%)
- Proposal videos (25%)
- Alternative rings (25%)
- Non-white Wedding Gown (24%)
- More than One Maid of Honor / Best Man (23%)
- Non-Gendered Wedding Parties (20%)
