Marine Vets Build A Fellow Vet’s New Deck

A Marine veterans organization in Missouri builds a wheelchair ramp for a fellow vet. The Jefferson City Marine Corps League, an organization of Marine veterans in Missouri, came together to help out a fellow Marine in need of a wheelchair ramp at his home. League member Steve Trower, says the group was contacted about a veteran in a local medical rehab facility that would be headed home soon and needed a wheelchair accessible ramp to get into his home.

Trower says when the group went to scout the job at the vet’s house, they found his home’s existing deck was in rough shape, so they tore it out and started on a new one that includes the needed handicap ramp. Local lumber company Scruggs Lumber donated a bunch of wood for the project and “Lowe’s gave us a real good price on the remaining lumber and hardware that we needed,” Trower says.

In just one day, the crew of around ten former Marines was able to build a proper and sturdy deck with a ramp and have it complete before the homeowner returned. Trower explains that this kind of project is the exact reason why the League exists and puts out an offer to other area veterans. “If there are other veterans, other Marines out there that need some help, we’re more than happy to assist them if we can,”
