ABC 6 Interviews Boy With Rare Illness Helped by A Wish Come True

ABC 6’s Tiffany Murphy sat down with a local mom and her 9-year-old son suffering from a rare illness who was helped by A Wish Come True.

In August of 2018 little Isaiah Hazard suddenly lost his ability to walk, move his arms and legs and hold up his head. Soon he was paralyzed from the neck down and was unable to speak.

Isaiah was diagnosed with acute flaccid myelitis, a disease so rare there are only 800 cases in the world. The incurable illness causes inflammation of the spinal cord.

Over the last four years Isaiah has had to relearn everything from sitting up to moving his hands, working his wheelchair and talking.

Local nonprofit A Wish Come True was there to help not long after Isaiah received his diagnosis. Along with a magical wish trip to Disney that was granted, the charity with their various programs helps the family cope emotionally.

This year A Wish Come True is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with the organization hosting a fundraiser gala Saturday, October 8th at the Water Fire Arts Center in Providence. You can purchase tickets HERE.
