When they announced this move I said then that it was going to be a bad idea. Moving the competition reality show 'Dancing With the Stars' to Disney + just didn't make sense from an audience perspective. Think about the age group of that audience. The average age of the "DWTS" viewer is 63 years old. Chances are they're not Disney + subscribers, unless they've got it for the grandkids.
Well after one season on Disney +, 'Dancing With the Stars' is moving back to ABC. How poorly did the show perform on the streamer? It's hard to say. Deadline reports that Disney + didn't release the viewership numbers for the 31st season which is not a good sign.
'Dancing With the Stars' was the first live show broadcast on the streaming platform, but obviously it was not a success, so DWTS will make history once again. Season 32 will be first series to simulcast across both ABC and Disney+, and the show will be available on Hulu the following day.
