Magic Johnson said he refused to watch Season 1 of the HBO series “Winning Time” because the show’s producers didn’t reach out to him and his former teammates for their input.
In an interview with Variety, he said, “You can’t do a story about the Lakers without the Lakers. The real Lakers. You gotta have the guys.”
Well now HBO is going ahead with a second season and it still doesn't sound like they've approached Johnson to hear what he has to say, which is too bad, I'm sure he has some incredible stories about those days.
Season two will continue to focus on the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers dynasty, and will explore the team's rivalry with the Boston Celtics from 1980-1984, particularly the relationship between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
Adrien Brody, John C. Reilly, Quincy Isaiah, Jason Clarke, Gaby Hoffmann, Jason Segel, and Hadley Robinson will all reprise their roles in the series for Season 2.
