Most Americans Think They Don't Need The Gym

An active lifestyle is important for your health, but can you actually work out without going to a gym? According to a new survey, the majority of Americans say you can.

The poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults finds:

  • Six in 10 swear they “get all the exercise they need” without ever going to the gym. In fact, 54% say they “never” go to the gym at all.
  • But the average person still considers themselves active five times a week and exercises four times a week.
  • Overall, 70% of those surveyed think they’re healthy, while 10% feel like they are a superhero or a pro athlete and 17% feel 10 years younger than they are.
  • And 78% believe they could accomplish tasks they couldn’t do before if they were able to improve their physical abilities by 10%.

People feel they get enough exercise by doing everyday activities like:

  • Walking around the neighborhood (74%)
  • Taking the stairs (60%)
  • Doing yard work (59%)
  • Cleaning the house (59%)
  • Walking the dog (56%)
  • Bringing groceries inside the house (42%)
  • Gardening (40%)
  • Taking out the trash (36%)
  • Stretching after getting out of bed (35%)
  • Doing dishes or laundry (33%)
  • Standing on their feet for at least four hours (30%)
  • Helping the kids get ready for school (10%)
